Old Faithful / Pâturer

Old Faithful (wide landscape shot) and Pâturer (bison portrait), Yellowstone National Park

Two images shot early on a cold morning in early May of 2021. While the area around the geyser can be seen as clear there was about 3' feet of snow in the parking lot and surrounding areas that morning. Despite on and off-again snowfall, the road into the geyser area was plowed clear; the constant geothermal activity keeping the cone area warm, clear and inviting to the bison.

National Park Travel Tip: Want to see the park with few to no people? Go just slightly off season and enter the park early in the day. The roads within the park are not all open but enough are to get you to the majority of the places you would want to see. The opportunity to share Old Faithful early in the morning with the bison was well worth getting up early for.

Both images captured with ‘Canon’ EOS R + ‘Sigma’ EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Art lens, ISO 100, 70mm, f/5, 1/320sec (Pâturer) and ISO 100, 35mm, f/8, 1/500sec (Old Faithful)

Printing by ‘Kenmore Camera’ using a ‘Canon’ ProGraf inkjet printer and ‘Moab Paper’ Entrada paper.

Prints of these images, both framed or unframed are available, but will only be printed on ‘Moab Paper’ Entrada 100% cotton rag. This acid-free paper paper is very similar to that which water color artists use and holds heavy color loads well. Entrada has a matte finish which works exceptionally well with archival ink prints of this type.

Pâturer is a French word meaning to graze or to pasture.
